Hitman - Series Retrospective - Full Documentary

Rating: 8.0

It starts nicely, giving details about the start of Hitman Codename 47 and some games with similar genre that came before. It's really good. The later sections, specially when it comes to the latest Hitman 2016, it's not that interesting, it's just an analysis of each map from the trilogy, but it is still a worth watching. (It's not the author fault that theres not much to talk about when it comes to Hitman 2, 3 and WoA, they didn't introduce many features, the formula remains the same, its just new maps and some quality of life improvements)

My Thoughts

As the time im writing this (2024-07-17) I honestly don't remember much of the start of the video, but I surely remember that it was my favorite part of the whole video. Learning about the stealth genre and how Hitman Codename 47 (The first entry of the series) was pretty weird and outdated even for the time it was released. The developers were still trying to figure out what Hitman actually was about, allowing themselves to make a lot of mistakes and weird design choices, it is surely a interesting game to analyze.

Those interesting analysis continued until Hitman Blood Money, where the developers finally learned the game formula and made this masterpiece of game. One of my favorite games of all time.

Aguero's analysis of latest trilogy is pretty good and cool to watch but in my opinion its the least interesting part of the video since the three games basically only adds new maps so he just analyses the level design and the storyline of the trilogy, which for me it's not as exciting as knowing the early story of the game development, mistakes, achievements, and other cool facts.

There's also his opinion on Hitman Absolution and I can't agree more. Both of us enjoys Absolution even tho we acknowledge its poor storytelling. It doesn't feel like a Hitman game, but it's a decent fun game nonetheless.

Favorite Moments and Memories

  • The analysis of the first game Hitman Codename 47, second game Silent Assassin, Blood Money and Absolution.
